From the 7th January 2013 it is now compulsory for every commercial building over 500mto display a Display Energy Certificate, referred to as Energy Performance Certificates outside of Ireland.

In the original Energy Performance Building Directive (EPDD) (Directive 2002/91/EC), all public buildings above 1000mmust display an energy certificate.

The recast Directive has been updated, the new requirement covers any private building over 500m(over 250mfrom July 2015) which is “frequently visited by the public” to display an energy certificate.

Shopping Centres, Supermarkets, Theatres, Cinemas, Restaurants, Banks, Hotels and Swimming Pools must have their DEC displayed in a prominent place clearly visible to the public.
